Snow Removal - How it Works

Our neighborhood roads are maintained by the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT).  According to the NCDOT, State roads are not be cleared by private contractors except those contracted specifically by the NCDOT, because of liability issues.  Consequently, we can not hire private contractors to clear neighborhood streets. NCDOT policy provides that roads are to be cleared in the following order:

1st - Bare Pavement Roads - Interstate, 4-lane highways, and all roads deemed essential for travel by emergency vehicles

2nd - All other US and NC highways and roads not considered BPR above

3rd - Paved Secondary Roads - i.e. Mills Gap Road

4th - Subdivision Roads - i.e. The Cotswolds

5th - Non-paved Secondary Roads
